Regional Peer Panels

The Regional Peer Panels are comprised of women and non-binary STEM experts who play a key role in selected and scoring the applications the fund receives. The nineteen RPP members also committed to a Conflict of Interest statement that will guide their scoring process. There are four regions with four to five members in each: Africa; Asia & the Pacific; Latin America and the Caribbean; Middle East.

The Regional Peer Panels MEMBERS were selected based on their expertise in grantmaking, gender justice, feminist principles, inclusion and STEM.

Tadala Sambakunsi

Malawi

She’s a devoted advocate for diversity and inclusion, is dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in STEM fields. With a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and ongoing studies for a Master of Science in Information Systems, her academic journey underscores a commitment to lifelong learning and empowerment. As a Regional Peer Panelist for the Africa Region in the FREE STEM Fund initiative, Tadala plays a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive future in STEM. Her vision is centered on creating opportunities and breaking barriers for minority communities in these fields. Through her work, Tadala aims to inspire and foster a new generation of diverse leaders in STEM, ensuring equitable access and representation.

Isabella Oyetade

Ghana

She is a disability Activist and a human right practitioner who currently works as a community manager for WomenFirstDigital.org She is passionate about bridging the gap in the access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for persons with developmental disabilities. Through her activism and advocacy work, she has facilitated several cohorts of adolescents in comprehensive sexuality education across Ghana.

She is a firm believer that “the sum total of your life cannot be determined by a single mistake”.

Janice Umpa

Papua New Guinea

Janice Umpa is an Information Technology (IT) specialist currently teaching ICT in Papua New Guinea (PNG) with over 15 years of experience. She is passionate about her subject area and is working to encourage more girls to pursue STEM education. She believes that the number of high school girls choosing to take STEM courses in high school and into tertiary education in the region is still alarmingly low, and she is doing her best as a teacher to help change that. She is a strong advocate for STEM education for all students, regardless of gender. She is the founder and director of PNG Robotics Club in Port Moresby, PNG whose aim is to encourage equal participation for all teenagers to develop a love for Robotics and AI within the Pacific Region.

Frei Sangil

Philippines

Frei Sangil is a data scientist specializing in cryptography and cyber forensics. She co-founded the research and development company Layertech Software Labs, Inc. in 2017, and remains as its president. She led a number of research and design and inclusive tech deployment projects with both local and international partners, many of which received recognition locally and globally. Frei also advises government agencies and international organizations on policies and programs related to STEM and Digitalization. Frei is a staunch advocate for inclusive digital transformation, including improving opportunities for young girls in marginalized communities to enter STEM fields.

Hira Amjad

Pakistan

Hira Amjad is a social justice leader with expertise in developing knowledge products and programs, organizational transformations, leading campaigns and organizing communities, especially with a focus on gender justice, climate, technology and feminist leadership. She is currently serving as a Global Advisor – Asia-Pacific at FRIDA (Global Feminist Fund), Fellow (Asia Programs) at Global Network of Women Peacebuilders and Founder & Executive Director at DASTAK Foundation. She founded DASTAK Foundation in 2019, a registered women/survivor-led non-profit, with the mission to advance social justice, particularly sexual and gender-based violence prevention, advancement of sexual and reproductive health rights and feminist leadership capacity development in Pakistan.

Aimy Lee

Malaysia

Aimy (she/her) currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Penang Science Cluster, a non-profit organization with a mission to foster STEM interest, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Penang, Malaysia. Before this role, she was a Teach for Malaysia fellow, striving to eliminate educational inequality. An alumna of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI), Aimy is passionate about using education to transform lives and communities. Aimy advocates strongly for STEM education, emphasizing its importance for Malaysia's global competitiveness and aims to enhance diversity in STEM, particularly among girls and individuals with disabilities.

Rana Alsheikh Ali

Rana Alsheikh Ali is a Syrian Human Rights and Gender Equality Activist, Researcher, and Peacebuilder.

Rana is the founder and Director of Daret Salam (Peace Circuit) a feminist network that works at the intersection of peacebuilding and technology. Through providing a safe space in which women from different contexts learn, share, and find solutions to their needs through this exchange.

Rana holds a master’s degree in Human Rights and Democracy from Saint Joseph University - Beirut. She also holds a bachelor’s degree in law and a High Diploma in Project Management from Damascus University. In addition, She has a High Diploma in International Affairs and Diplomatic Studies.
Rana has wide experience in diverse topics related to promoting digital rights, gender equality, and peace-building. She is also an expert in planning and implementing projects and campaigns that focus on the rights of marginalized groups and gender issues in the MENA region. In addition to her work, she served as a volunteer with different international agencies and Syrian non-governmental organizations. She is an alumna of the Leadership of Democracy fellowship program in 2017. Now, Rana is seeking admission to pursue a Ph.D. in motherhood, memory as a tool to seek the truth and justice in the context of conflict.

Sally Hassona

Egypt

International school teacher/educator in Cairo Egypt with a Master of Education from the University of Sydney. WW ONSIDE Fund Grantee and Peer review panelist for the Middle East and North Africa regions, Student Mentor for pre college academic programs at the University of Oxford ‘Summer Springboard’. Founder and coach of Impact Sports Academy for girls boxing in Egypt where girls can safely train and reduce the gender gap in a male dominant sport, reduce wide spread arranged early marriage grooming, sexual violence, education drop out for marriage amongst less advantaged girls, and capacity build older girls in the program to become coaches or continue with higher education to become economically independent.

Shada Hofemeier Abu Hattum

Nazareth

Shada holds a master's degree in biomedical engineering, a master's degree in patent law, and a Ph.D. in Physics. Shada is actively engaged in academia and has also co-founded a company focused on advancing technology for enhanced and rapid medical diagnostics. She is a dedicated advocate for diversity and gender equality. She co-founded an organization with a focus on raising awareness about sexual abuse, served as the gender equality officer at her academic institution, and has volunteered her time and expertise in numerous organizations and events working to reduce the gender gap in STEM fields.

Leticia Tituaña

Ecuador

Leticia Tituaña is a Kichwa woman, an Ecuadorian chemical engineer graduated from the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL). With a keen interest in water resources management, she is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Engineering Science for Water Resources Management at the National Polytechnic School (EPN) in Quito, Ecuador. Leticia has participated in important international events related to water and climate change, including the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27), where she worked as a delegate for her country. In addition, she was a speaker at the UN Water Conference 2023 in New York, as well as a speaker at the III Youth Days in Prague, organized by the EU-LAC Foundation, and at the Women Forum USA 2023 in Washington DC. Leticia is a leader and activist committed to gender equity in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). As founder of Warmi STEM an organization that seeks to promote gender equality and women's participation in STEM, she has been recognized as a Future Rising Fellow and Ibero-American Leader by Fundación Carolina, which demonstrates her dedication to this issue. With extensive experience in project management and research in water-related technologies, Leticia demonstrates her passion for engineering and her commitment to sustainability, which has led her to be an important voice in the fight against climate change and the protection of our natural resources.

Kabelo Kennybarel Rapholo

Chimeremma Amadi

Ebenye Veronica Mbakwa

Patricia Humura

Como panelista regional para la región de África en la iniciativa FREE STEM Fund, Tadala desempeña un papel crucial en la configuración de un futuro más integrador en STEM. Su visión se centra en crear oportunidades y romper barreras para las comunidades minoritarias en estos campos. Con su trabajo, Tadala pretende inspirar y fomentar una nueva generación de líderes diversos en STEM, garantizando un acceso y una representación equitativos.

Isabella Oyetade

Ghana

Es activista en materia de discapacidad y profesional de los derechos humanos. Actualmente trabaja como gestora comunitaria para WomenFirstDigital.org. Janice Umpa

Papúa Nueva Guinea

Es una apasionada de su especialidad y trabaja para animar a más chicas a cursar estudios de STEM. Cree que el número de chicas de secundaria que deciden cursar estudios de STEM en el instituto y en la educación terciaria en la región sigue siendo alarmantemente bajo, y está haciendo todo lo que puede como profesora para ayudar a cambiar esta situación. Es una firme defensora de la educación STEM para todos los estudiantes, independientemente de su género. Hira Amjad

Pakistán

Aimy Lee

Malasia

En la actualidad, Aimy (ella/ella) es la Directora de Operaciones (COO) de Penang Science Cluster, una organización sin ánimo de lucro cuya misión es fomentar el interés por las STEM, la innovación y el espíritu empresarial en Penang (Malasia). Antes de desempeñar este cargo, fue becaria de Teach for Malaysia, esforzándose por eliminar la desigualdad educativa. Alumna del Programa Internacional de Liderazgo para Visitantes (IVLP) y de la Iniciativa de Jóvenes Líderes del Sudeste Asiático (YSEALI), Aimy es una apasionada del uso de la educación para transformar vidas y comunidades. Rana Alsheikh Ali

Rana Alsheikh Ali es una activista siria de derechos humanos e igualdad de género, investigadora y constructora de la paz.
Rana es fundadora y directora de Daret Salam (Circuito de la Paz), una red feminista que trabaja en la intersección de la construcción de la paz y la tecnología. Proporciona un espacio seguro en el que mujeres de diferentes contextos aprenden, comparten y encuentran soluciones a sus necesidades a través de este intercambio.
Rana tiene un máster en Derechos Humanos y Democracia por la Universidad Saint Joseph de Beirut. También es licenciada en Derecho y tiene un Diploma Superior en Gestión de Proyectos por la Universidad de Damasco. Además, tiene un Alto Diploma en Asuntos Internacionales y Estudios Diplomáticos.
Rana tiene amplia experiencia en diversos temas relacionados con la promoción de los derechos digitales, la igualdad de género y la consolidación de la paz. También es experta en planificación y ejecución de proyectos y campañas centrados en los derechos de los grupos marginados y en cuestiones de género en la región de Oriente Medio y Norte de África. Además de su trabajo, ha colaborado como voluntaria con distintas agencias internacionales y organizaciones no gubernamentales sirias. Es antigua alumna del programa de becas Liderazgo de la Democracia en 2017. Ahora, Rana está intentando ser admitida para realizar un doctorado sobre la maternidad, la memoria como herramienta para buscar la verdad y la justicia en el contexto de los conflictos.

Sally Hassona

Egipto

Profesora/educadora de escuela internacional en El Cairo, Egipto, con un Máster en Educación por la Universidad de Sydney. Becaria del Fondo WW ONSIDE y panelista regional de pares para las regiones de Oriente Medio y el Norte de África, mentora de estudiantes para programas académicos preuniversitarios en la Universidad de Oxford "Summer Springboard". Fundadora y entrenadora de la Academia de Deportes Impact para el boxeo femenino en Egipto, donde las niñas pueden entrenar de forma segura y reducir la brecha de género en un deporte dominado por los hombres, reducir los matrimonios precoces arreglados, la violencia sexual, el abandono de los estudios para casarse entre las niñas menos favorecidas, y capacitar a las niñas mayores del programa para que se conviertan en entrenadoras o continúen con estudios superiores para ser económicamente independientes.

Shada Hofemeier Abu Hattum

Shada participa activamente en el mundo académico y también ha cofundado una empresa centrada en el avance de la tecnología para el diagnóstico médico rápido y mejorado. Es una firme defensora de la diversidad y la igualdad de género. Es cofundadora de una organización dedicada a la sensibilización sobre los abusos sexuales, ha sido responsable de igualdad de género en su institución académica y ha ofrecido su tiempo y experiencia en numerosas organizaciones y eventos para reducir la brecha de género en los campos STEM.

Leticia Tituaña

Ecuador

Además, fue conferencista en la UN Water Conference 2023 en Nueva York, así como oradora en las III Jornadas de la Juventud en Praga, organizada por la Fundación EU-LAC y, en el Women Forum USA 2023 en Washington DC. Leticia es una líder y activista comprometida con la equidad de género en la ciencia, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas (STEM). Como fundadora de Warmi STEM una organización que busca promover la igualdad de género y la participación de las mujeres en STEM, ha sido reconocida como una Future Rising Fellow y Líder Iberoamericana por la Fundación Carolina, lo que demuestra su dedicación a este tema. Con una amplia experiencia en la gestión de proyectos y en la investigación de tecnologías relacionadas con el agua, Leticia demuestra su pasión por la ingeniería y su compromiso con la sostenibilidad, mismo que la han llevado a ser una voz importante en la lucha contra el cambio climático y la protección de nuestros recursos naturales.

Bárbara Paes

Brasil

Bárbara Paes es una organizadora que trabaja en la intersección de la justicia social, el poder y la tecnología. Ha dirigido diversos proyectos que exploran el impacto de las tecnologías digitales en la sociedad civil. Es una de las cofundadoras del Instituto Minas Programam, organización dedicada a compartir conocimientos sobre tecnología con niñas y mujeres negras de São Paulo, Brasil.

Nathalie Eleonor Vilgrain

Haití

Nathalie (ella) es activista feminista, cofundadora y primera coordinadora general de MARIJÀN, una organización de jóvenes feministas con sede en Haití. Es licenciada en Ciencias Políticas y Estudios Feministas por la Universidad de Ottawa. Ha recibido el Premio Bernard Grandmaître a la Joven Líder del Año 2018 en Ontario y de Women have Wings. Nathalie se define como feminista caribeña. Su trabajo se centra en la defensa de la justicia social a través del activismo y la capacitación de organizaciones juveniles locales. Está especializada en promover la representación política de las mujeres y los derechos de las trabajadoras sexuales y las comunidades LGBTQI. Ella y su equipo están trabajando en el primer Foro de Mujeres y Niñas en STEM para los clubes TIFI DJANM de MARIJÀN, en Haití.
